The Abu Dhabi young driver test is shaping up to be an interesting showcase for new talent. McLaren will run test drivers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey, but perhaps more interesting is that the team will also give seat time to Kevin Magnussen. Son of former McLaren and Stewart driver Jan Magnussen, Kevin will be carefully watched and is a highly respected talent.
Also set to run is Nicolas Prost, son of the legendary Alain Prost. He will be running for Lotus at the Yas Marinas circuit in early November. Prost Jnr has obvious talent, but has yet to display the sort of outright consistent speed and ability that characterised his father’s quite amazing career.
The most interesting name to be confirmed so far, however, is that of Robin Frijns. The Dutchman has been extremely impressive so far throughout his career, and is fighting for the Formula Renault 3.5 title, to be decided at Barcelona this weekend. He will run for Sauber at Abu Dhabi, and is considered by many to be the brightest young talent for a long time. Remember the name; you will be hearing a lot more of him.
