Browsing the internet during my morning break has led me to a surprising revelation. The story is, although as-yet confirmed, that Ma Qing Hua, the Chinese driver who has appeared in an HRT in a couple of Friday practice sessions this season, will join Pedro de la Rosa at the little Spanish team next season as full-time race driver.
As the first Chinese national to take part in an official Formula One weekend (at Monza this year) Qing Hua has already made history, and if the story is true (be careful- it is GMM sanctioned) this is ground breaking news.
While Qing Hua has hardly set the world alight he has put in some notable performances, particularly in the Chinese Touring Car Championship in 2011 where he took the title. It is, however, a big jump from there to full-time Formula One.
Meanwhile, the always-readable Joe Saward has alluded to some major new sponsorship announcements at the upcoming US Grand Prix in Texas.
